True Love Waits

In 2005, Pastor Joshua asked me to come back to teach True Love Waits. Honestly, I did not want to do it. It is not comfortable to talk about those things if you aren't used to it. I rejected the thought for months until the Lord pressed it into my heart. I relented and said "Yes" to the Lord. I still was not confident as I searched for an African version that would relate well with their culture. No success. I was greatly encouraged by Catherine Walker that summer when she advised me to just write it myself. (Thanks Catherine) I read all of the materials of TLW and some other purity books. I decided to use mostly scripture because it transcends all culture.
The first TLW class was taught in Mfangano by Rick Gessner and myself September 2006. I believe it was well received and there were decisions made that day. Since that time, I have taught the biblical principles of sexual purity all of the schools that I have visited there. I always see that it is well received and decisions are made. They stand for their commitments in front of their peers. I am careful to teach that the commitment is first and foremost to honor God with obedience. It is all too easy for them to interpret this as "How not to get HIV" class. Please pray that they will keep their commitments.
